Still Life in Transluscent Light

Date

January 2026

Location

Ephraim, Utah

Medium

Oil on canvas

One morning, I walked into my kitchen and saw a bowl of grapes sitting on the stove that just absolutely enthralled me. I was encapsulated by the way the light filtered through the fruit, illuminating the colors that under another window at another time of day might have gone unnoticed. So I painted that bowl of grapes and called it Still Life In Translucent Light. But perhaps that experience was a little more profound than it might seem at first glance. I think the world might be a better place if every once in a while we would freak out about a bowl of grapes. Maybe if we noticed the little things that made life so incredible, we’d live our lives very differently. Still Life in Translucent Light shows a moment that could be brilliant and extraordinary: all it takes is for you to notice it that way.
